The Finnish women’s cheer team had to settle for a bronze medal in the World Cup finals in Orlando, USA, the night before Saturday Finnish time.
Finland went into the final with confidence, as it had won Thursday’s semi-final with 90.93 points. However, there were several surprising mistakes in the final program, which made the overall appearance of the program significantly less uncertain than the semi-final performance. Third place came with 82.93 points.
– There was an unfortunate amount of mistakes and the program was not at our level. As is often said, this is sport, team captain Emmi Reenkola stated after the final performance.
Also the second captain of the team, Tuuve Häkkinen was confused by the team’s performance.
– I think we had prepared really well. We have done a lot of work throughout the season and learned from last year’s mistakes.
Finland has won the world championship in the years 2018–2022, and last year the team took silver at the World Cup.
– We got the World Championship medal despite the fact that there were many mistakes in the performance. This bronze was not a given either. At the same time, of course, it’s sad, because we didn’t come to get bronze, but gold, Häkkinen stated.
The difference between Finland and the United States was almost 10 points, and Sweden was 5.8 points. The last time Sweden won World Cup medals was in 2018.
– I am happy for Sweden. They have done really good work for a long time and now it was rewarded. It is also genuine happiness for them, Reenkola admits.
Three medals for juniors
In addition to the World Cup bronze for the women’s cheer team, Finland achieved World Cup silver in the girls’ cheer series and the Juniors’ mixed cheer series, as well as bronze in the Juniors’ cheer dance series.
For its part, the Finnish national cheer dance team reached fourth place in the World Championships. The team was in sixth place after the semi-final, but managed to move up two places with a successful final program. The championship went to the United States. Japan took silver and Mexico bronze.
