Nike, official equipment supplier of the FFF, the French football federation, and the blues, holds the highest contract in the world for a national team. Thanks to the victory of France at the World Cup in 2018, the comma mark entered the history of world football. This Sunday’s final between Argentina and France represents a major challenge for her.
Nike intends to add a third world trophy to its list, after Brazil in 2002 and France four years ago, while Adidas already has six. After being under contract for years with Adidas, the French Football Federation (FFF) preferred the American equipment manufacturer who went all out to attract the tricolors to its fold.
The first contract signed in 2008 with effect in 2011 amounted to 42.6 million euros per year, four times more than what the FFF received from Adidas. Contract which will be renegotiated upwards a few years later and increased to just over 50 million per year and including an equipment allocation of around 12 million euros per year for the various selections.
Nike, the best represented brand in the world
With this masterstroke, Nike has established itself to the point of becoming the best represented brand at the opening of the World Cup in Qatar with 13 teams out of 32 under contract. If the blues win this Sunday, Nike will quickly have new jerseys made with three stars, the match versions will be sold for 130 euros each and the replicas for 80 euros.
Hoping that Nike will do better than in 2018 when the blues won in Russia, where the equipment manufacturer had not anticipated the manufacture of the new jerseysangering fans.
