If there is one genre that has been a hit with the public in recent months, alongside superhero films, it is horror films. Between Megan, X, Scream VI, Smile and the recent Evil Dead Rise, spectators like to go to the cinema to scare themselves. On the side of 20th Century Studios, we are about to release a certain Le Croque-Mitaine, or rather The Boogeyman for its original title, scheduled for May 31 on the big screen. Adapted from a novel by Stephen King, the film tells how Sadie, a teenager, and her little sister Sawyer, find themselves prey to a dangerous and terrifying evil presence in their house. They will try to fight by trying to count on the help of their father Will, still very marked by the death of his wife.
In an interview given to Empire magazine, the director of the film, Rob Savage, explained that his film was re-edited after test screenings, viewers were so scared by some scenes that they simply missed some crucial dialogue. “The first time the creature appeared, the audience shouted so loudly that they started talking with their neighbors and then chatting, and they completely missed the dialogues that followed. So we decided to re-edit the passage and add a 45 second sequence as a buffer, just so they wouldn’t miss any essential information.” says Rob Savage to the Empire reporter. The latter also specifies that the film received the blessing of Stephen King. “We rented a theater and screened the movie for him in Maine. I didn’t go because I was terrified it would look like The Shining and he absolutely hates it.” But the famous writer jumped up numerous times, then sent a lovely message to everyone who worked on the film. The next morning, the film was still present in the mind of Stephen King that he decided to send an email to Rob Savage to tell him that the film still haunted him.
While waiting for May 31 to take a shot of fear, here is the new trailer for the film.
