Two security guards are suspected of grossly causing the death of another after the intervention against a man who allegedly behaved disorderly on a subway platform in Stockholm. The man lost consciousness and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. SVT has seen a film that shows parts of the sequence of events.
Another video previously published on social media shows how one of the guards with a maneuver takes the man down to the floor. In the beginning of the film that SVT has seen, one of the guards can be seen holding the man who is lying on his stomach on the platform.
Asks if the man is breathing
Furthermore, one of the guards appears to have his arm around the man’s neck while the other briefly appears to press his head down in the grip.
One guard asks the other if the man is breathing. The question has time to be repeated before the other guard answers “No”. Then the first guard releases his grip on the man, who seems to lie completely still.
From the moment the security guard releases his grip on the man’s neck, the video shows another minute or so of the sequence of events – and during that time no CPR is started. However, this must have started later.
Alhem: Strong probative value
Sven-Erik Alhem, retired chief prosecutor and chairman of the association of the Crime Victims’ Center, believes that the film has an “extraordinarily strong probative value for the detention itself”.
– You can see that it is a long-term stranglehold, as I perceive it. A choke hold is never harmless and should be avoided at all costs.
According to Alhem, the film together with other observations, witness statements and the coroner’s assessment can illustrate the sequence of events quite well. At the same time, he emphasizes that it is clear that it is an intervention that takes place after a tumultuous situation.
– You cannot know from this film exactly how the security guards have reacted and acted at first. You always have to be very careful with what you see when you can sense that there is a sequence of events that is a little more extensive than what is illustrated via a film.
The two security guards who were arrested after the incident were released on Monday, but are still suspected of grossly causing the death of another. Both deny wrongdoing.
