Van de Velde does not dare to make any statements about the quality of the films this year. “It depends a bit on who you ask.” According to the Utrecht director, there are more and more films that are made specifically for target groups, for the elderly or for young people. A big crowd puller is no longer among them.

“I think that’s a shame,” says Van de Velde. “They’re shooting their arrows more and more specifically.” He thinks it has to do with the streaming services, which means there’s always something to watch on TV at home. “That’s why you shouldn’t just have a nice film. You have to program more and more specifically.”
