According to the sports association he represents, the former figure skating champion would be an exceptionally versatile member of the Olympic Committee’s board.
The Finnish Figure Skating Association says it will present a former top figure skater Laura Lepistö to the board of the Finnish Olympic Committee.
Lepistö is Finland’s most successful solo skater of all time. Among other things, Lepistö, who achieved World Championship bronze and European Championship gold in his career, has worked in sports marketing and sponsorship in recent years. He has also worked in the Figure Skating Association between 2017 and 2021, both as vice-president (2020) and as a member.
Lepistö has a master’s degree in economics.
– My elite sports background and my versatile experience in different roles in sports give me a unique perspective on the work of the Olympic Committee’s board. I want to bring to the table my own experience of working practices and development targets, and act as a channel for the voice of today’s top athletes to be heard. It’s important to get perspectives from every level of an athlete’s path, Lepistö commented in the announcement of the Figure Skating Association.
According to the sports association’s description, Lepistö would be a “unique combination of top sports experience, sports sponsorship and
-management skills and expertise in sports administration”.
The Olympic Committee’s new chairman and board will be elected at its autumn meeting at the end of November.
