The entire city of Aleppo is under the control of the rebels. Russia supports the Syrian regime’s attempts to retake the city with its airstrikes.
The fighting in Aleppo in the northern part of Syria and its outskirts continued on Monday at the same time that the UN Security Council announced that it would hold an emergency meeting on the situation on Tuesday at the request of the Syrian government.
The Syrian army, together with Russia, carried out airstrikes on rebel areas, while the forces led by the jihadist organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) fired rockets at the city of Hama, which is under the control of government forces.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war, six civilians were killed in the shooting.
According to the same organization, 11 civilians died in airstrikes on rebel areas.
Syrian president Bashar al-Assad over the weekend, the regime completely lost control of Aleppo to the rebels in a blitzkrieg that completely caught the army by surprise. On Sunday, the entire city was under the control of the rebel coalition, except for the neighborhoods controlled by Kurdish fighters.
– The actions of the terrorists reflect long-term efforts to divide the region — and to draw dividing lines on the map in accordance with the goals of the United States and the West, said al-Assad’s statement provided by the presidential office.
In addition to Russia, Iran also supports the Syrian government. Both have promised to help Syria retake Aleppo.
During the night before Saturday, Russia carried out airstrikes in Aleppo for the first time since 2016.
