Transitional Burkinabe President Paul-Henri Damiba was in Niamey on Sunday September 11 to meet President Mohamed Bazoum. Security issues are of concern to neighboring leaders in the so-called “three borders” area. It was accompanied by his Ministers of National Defence, Foreign Affairs and the Commander of National Theater Operations that Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba was received at the presidential palace in Niamey. This working visit of a few hours allowed the two heads of state to assess the security situation and to find, it is said, the best strategies to coordinate the hunt against armed groups on their border.
At the end of his meeting with President Bazoum, the Burkinabè head of state declared that the issue of insecurity is worrying on the three borders. An hour of talks during which the two Heads of State did not fail to discuss and congratulate each other on the release of American hostage Suellen Tennyson.
Niger and Burkina Faso have to their credit a military cooperation agreement and several joint operations along their border. We can cite the major Taanli 1, 2 and 3 operations which made it possible to neutralize several dozen jihadists and recover equipment.
Before returning to his country, Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba went to the Burkina Faso consulate in Niamey. Officially, at least one million Burkinabè live in Niger. He also met the ECOWAS mediator for Burkina Faso, former President Mahamadou Issoufou.
