Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not had a dream start to his new job in Milan.
Now the criticism is raining down on him – and the behavior during the last match.
“He is a disaster,” writes host Andrea Longoni.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of the top goalscorers of the last 20 years, and he has always been a big profile on the sidelines. After a long and very successful career, he chose to hang up his shoes last year, but he didn’t have to be idle for too long.
The failed start
For a few months now, Ibrahimovic has been part of Milan’s sporting management, partly as an adviser, but also as an adviser to the club’s owner, Redbird. Exactly what job descriptions are included in his role is a bit unclear, but it is clear that Ibrahimovic played a big part in hiring a new coach for the team during the summer, when he himself was involved in introducing Paulo Fonseca, who most recently came from Ligue 1 team Lille.
But so far the recruitment has not gone as Ibrahimovic or Milan hoped. There was only one point in the opener at home against Torino, and that miscalculation was followed up with an even greater disappointment when it was a 1-2 loss against newcomers Parma. With one point from two games played, Milan has already slipped behind last year’s winner Inter, and above all Juventus, who are on full pot after two games. And now comes sharp criticism of Ibrahimovic’s recruitment – and actions.
Now sawing heavily
The Italian newspaper Panorama writes, according to Fotbollskanalen, on Tuesday that Ibrahimovic’s actions right now can be significantly improved, and that he should take responsibility for how he has acted in the past six months.
“Seeing him shaking his head like at Tardini (Parma’s arena) doesn’t help anyone, especially Fonseca. He signed the coach, he has (according to his own statement) selected players on the market, he has drawn up the plans for the next few months. It is up to him to put out the fires of disappointment by giving the coach his support, even in public, and protecting him at this important moment of the season,” they write, according to Football channel Headlines.
Already this weekend, according to the same site, there was also harsh criticism from the presenter and Milan supporter Andrea Longoni, with close to 15,000 followers on X.
“Ibra is the biggest disappointment. So far he has been a minor disaster, pretentious as well,” he writes.
