The father after acquittal of the murder sentence: “Sad and cursed”

The man who was charged with the over 20-year-old murder of 18-year-old Marua Ajouz was acquitted today by the Malmö district court.
The court believes that even if some argue that the then 21-year-old man may have had something to do with her death – it cannot be proven.
– I’m sorry and cursed, says
Mohammad Ajouz, Marua’s father.

Marua Ajouz was 18 years old when she disappeared in December 2002. Just over a year later, her head was found in Bokskogen outside Malmö. In 2017, large parts of her body were found during excavation work in Nordanå.

Suspicions were early directed towards Marua’s ex-boyfriend and his group of friends. But the district court believes that even if there is much to suggest that the then 21-year-old man may have had something to do with the murder – it cannot be proven.

For Marua’s father, the trial has nevertheless contributed to providing answers to some questions about the murder.

– This means that we found out how it happened. It’s easier now… Now we have the whole story, says Mohammad Ajouz.

“She is always with me”

The acquitted man’s defense attorney says he does not want his client to comment on the celebratory verdict. The prosecutor says that he will only decide on a possible appeal after going through the verdict.

– It cannot be ruled out that she died in an accident. Nor can it be ruled out that it was a dangerous shot. On the contrary, basically all interrogators heard on that topic have told about an accident and/or a dangerous shot, says councilor Lisa Löfberg.

But Marua’s father puts his hope in the Court of Appeal, for Marua’s sake.

– She is always with me. She lives, she will never disappear, he says.
