The fatal accident on the E22 – that’s why the emergency services missed the children in the car

A woman in her 30s and two children died in a car accident on the E22 outside Kristianstad on Sunday evening. A man in his 40s is being treated in hospital after the accident.

Andreas Bengtsson, rescue manager in Kristianstad, tells about the rescue service’s call:

– It burned a lot. The whole car was pretty much on fire when we arrived at the scene.

Two adults were found injured, of which the woman later died. The emergency services had received information that there were only two people traveling in the car – something that would later turn out to be incorrect.

– At half past one we are alerted to the scene again, says Andreas Bengtsson.

Two deceased children

Rescue personnel then found two deceased children – one in the car and one outside.

– I have never witnessed that we have missed or that people have left an accident and not found the individuals who could possibly be involved, says Andreas Bengtsson, who has worked in the rescue service since 2000.

– This is a tragic event that had a very unfortunate outcome, says the rescue manager about the car accident, which will now be investigated.
