Warhammer gets a completely new army for the tabletop, but not for the popular Warhammer 40,000, but for The Old World. The exciting thing about it: The original game has been dead since 2014 and the new army comes from the successful Total War: Warhammer 3.
What kind of faction is that?
That is why the reveal is so special: The last, completely new army in Warhammer Fantasy came in 2010 with the Beasts or in 2003 with the previous Beasts of Chaos. A few years later, the game was discontinued in favor of Age of Sigmar, only around 2024 as The Old World.
However, The Old World only started with 9 of the original armies. Other codes from the past have been overtaken, but are not officially supported for the first edition of the game.
As early as 2021, Games Workshop Cathay announced as a new army and for working with Total War: Warhammer 3. The strategy game is still the greatest Total War on Steam and one of the best strategy games that you can currently play – and apparently successful enough to influence Warhammer itself.
Cathay already exists in the Lore of Warhammer much earlier, but the army itself has been seen for the first time in the strategy game on Steam.

“Thought that is just a cash in Games workshop”
The reaction to Cathay’s reveal is consistently positive, especially because only a few fans really expected new units. In the community, the assumption has been assumed that Games Warhammer Fantasy will simply not support any further support because it is not worth it.
In a thread on Reddit, the players are enthusiastic about the look of the miniatures and of getting something new at all:
I can’t believe that this is real! I really thought Old World was just a nostalgia-cash-in for Games workshop. The fact that you make a brand new army shows that you are serious!

The second army of Total War: Warhammer 3, which has never been seen in the tabletop before, is Kislev. The faction based on Polish history from the north consists of bear riders, ulans and tzars, with a deeply rooted hostility with the chaos. Kislev recently received all -round renewal and is now expected as the next army for The Old World.
Warhammer himself only got a completely new army in 2022, but for the dystopian sci-fi version Warhammer 40,000. Here the Votann conglomerates have been the first new arms since the T’au: there are space dwarfs in Warhammer 40,000 and they are even harder than in Deep Rock Galactic
