Both films are based on a book by Lewis Carroll and rely on both an absolutely star cast and full fantasy drama. But still, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass was nowhere near as popular or successful as the first part. The sequel is on TV today.
That’s what Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass is about
After a long absence, the title heroine Alice (Mia Wasikowska) returns to Wonderland. However, there is complete chaos there the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is barely recognizable. Accordingly, Alice’s old acquaintances ask her to put a stop to the mischief.
But of course that’s easier said than done, especially in Wonderland. But Alice wouldn’t be Alice if she didn’t still go on an adventure to save her beloved Wonderland. In the course of this she even has to take on time herself (Sacha Baron Cohen).
After billion-dollar success: Behind the Looking Glass failed both with fans and critics
While Alice in Wonderland was a resounding success and grossed a total of over a billion US dollars, the same feat could not be achieved again on the second attempt. Financials fell well short of expectations: According to Box Office Mojo came worldwide just under $300 million Clear again.

Even Sacha Baron Cohen can’t save Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.
The voices of fans and critics also speak for themselves. On Rotten Tomatoes, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass has an average score of just 29 percent.
In our Moviepilot ranking of the best (and worst) Disney remakes, the film comes in last place. It owes this to the seemingly very loveless CGI worlds without heart and mind as well as the lame story. Tim Burton’s handwriting is clearly missing herewhich was able to at least add some flair to part one – even Sacha Baron Cohen can’t take anything out of it.
