When Constantine came to the cinema in 2005, the enthusiasm was relatively limited. A lot has happened in the past 20 years, and the fantasy horror with DC comic template has long been cult. Constantine actor Keanu Reeves has been trying to get a sequel together with OG director Francis Lawrence for years-and a big hurdle has now been finally taken.
Keanu Reeves convinced with Constantine 2-idea: The fantasy sequel can come
As Reeves recently revealed in an interview with Inverse, has The right story idea For Constantine 2, the project brought the project to the next stage:
We tried to make this film for over a decade and recently put together a story and presented it to the DC Studios, and they said ‘Okay’. So now we will try to script to write.
Most recently, in September last year there was talk of a finished script that producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura was presented, but apparently should not be pursued further. Of course, Reeves did not reveal exactly what the successful pitch was compared to DC. Only so much that the film is still located in the same fantasy horror world. He also reveals: “John Constantine will be tortured even more.”
Only this month, filmmaker Lawrence gave himself extremely optimistic about Collider when it comes to Constantine 2 and said: “We are closer to turning a sequel than ever before, which is a great thing.”
Producer Akiva Goldsman (Fringe, Star Trek) is currently the third man in the group who is trying to Constantine 2. He was also involved in the original film.
