The wings of the windmill of the Moulin Rouge cabaret club, one of the most popular attractions in Paris, have collapsed. The exact cause of the collapse is currently unknown.
The director of the Moulin Rouge Jean-Victor Clericon according to the incident, vandalism is not suspected. According to him, there is clearly a technical fault behind the accident.
The accident happened between two and three o’clock last night. According to a spokesperson for the cabaret, no one was injured.
Opened in 1889, the Moulin Rouge is, as its name suggests, known for its large red windmill on the roof of the cabaret.
“Fortunately, this happened after the closure,” said a Moulin Rouge representative who remained anonymous to news agency AFP.
– Every week, the cabaret’s technical team checks the mechanism of the windmill, and it hasn’t found any problems, he continued.
Images of wings lying on the street can be seen on social media. Some of the wings were also slightly bent.
The accident happened just a few months before the start of the Summer Olympics in Paris.
The last time Moulin Rouge suffered a serious accident was in 1915, when a fire broke out during construction. It forced the place to close for nine years.
