Hamide Okutucu, who lives in Gebze district of Kocaeli, went to Private Gebze Yüzyıl Hospital on May 23, 2023. Okutucu gave birth prematurely and gave birth to quadruplets. Due to premature birth, the babies were placed in an incubator. 2 days after birth, the family received the news that one of the babies had passed away. A few days later, their second and third babies also died. Allegedly, the doctor told the family that the babies had germs and that this was hereditary. The family began to wait desperately for their fourth baby, Cemre, to be saved. Seeing that their baby’s condition was getting worse and that there were burns on his body, the mother and father Okutucu researched hospitals and doctors.
BABY CEMRE WAS DISASTER IN THE HOSPITAL
Baby Cemre, who was intubated for 3 months, was transferred from Private Gebze Yüzyıl Hospital to Medilife Bağcılar Hospital via 112. Here, too, the baby who was placed in the incubator lost 100 percent of his vision in his left eye, and his body became weaker due to the medications given, and his ability to walk and move was damaged. The family, who said that their baby had burn marks on his body and his bones were visible, started a legal fight last year to punish those responsible.
The family, who buried their 3 babies, was once again devastated after hearing the news about the newborn gang, which caused the deaths of babies by keeping them in intensive care in order to receive 8 thousand liras per day from SSI. Remembering the painful days they lived through, the couple petitioned through their lawyers to be included in the file opened regarding the newborn gang.
“MY CHILD LOST AN EYE IN MEDİLİFE HOSPITAL”
Stating that they expressed their grievances through Ihlas News Agency (IHA) last year but could not make their voices heard, Akın Okutucu said, “We interviewed you a year ago and expressed this incident, but no one heard our voices. If anyone had heard our voices during that period, perhaps this would not have happened to the families. Unfortunately, Our voice was not heard. I lost my 3 babies in Gebze Yüzyıl Hospital. I wanted to take my fourth child, Cemre, from there. The teacher named Muhammet told us that I would contact 112 and that we would be notified with his approval. They recommended the hospital. We did not know this. Unfortunately, my child lost one eye there. Thanks to our doctor in Çapa, he did everything for my daughter. “I think they are working together,” he said.
“WHY WAS MEDILIFE PREFERRED WHEN THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF HOSPITALS?”
Akın Okutucu stated that he buried 3 of his babies and the other one suffered a lot and said, “If precautions had been taken when we voiced these, perhaps none of these would have happened. Private Century Hospital referred us there. Our esteemed President opened many hospitals to service. Why did Medilife be preferred when there were a thousand hospitals?” “This is a network. I want all of them to receive the heaviest punishment,” he said.
“IF THEY HAD PAID US TO CONSIDERATION, DEATH WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED”
Stating that they suffered a lot, Hamide Okutucu said, “We tried to make our voices heard. No one listened to us, we were not taken seriously. Maybe if they had taken into consideration, there would not have been so many deaths. We just wanted the doctors who treated us in the hospital in this way to be punished. It is very bad that other families also experience this. I “I buried my three children. My wife and I still haven’t fully recovered. Hopefully, everything will come to light. No mother will bury her children in the ground. I hope they won’t be hurt and their children will sleep in their sheep,” he said.
