The Söderqvist family of four basement is filled with half a meter of water after the heavy rain that has moved in during the past 24 hours.
– We have been crying all morning today, says Simone Söderqvist.
Hudiksvall has been hit hard by the rainy weather of the past 24 hours. Simone Söderqvist lives in a house with her partner and four children. The family’s basement is completely flooded with half a meter of water.
– I woke up, my partner went downstairs and checked the basement and since then we have been crying all morning. It’s not the first time this has happened either.
Twice in three months
It is the second time in the space of three months that the family has suffered flooding in the basement. The last time the storm Hans moved in over the country, Simone was heavily pregnant and gave birth to her son a week later. The family had recently received the happy news that the basement floor was finally completely dry and that reconstruction could begin.
– As recently as yesterday, carpenters were on site to fix up and start construction of the basement. We were very pleased, especially the daughter who has her room down there. Now we probably have to wait another three months.
“It’s awful”
The Söderqvist family, who love their house, are beginning to think about whether it is really worth living there with all the flooding problems.
– We cannot stand here and have floods twice or more a year. There is something wrong with the stormwater wells here. Insurance companies may not want to help restore unless the municipality does something.
On Monday, Anticimex will come and start setting up fans in the house to start another drying process all over again.
– It is incredibly difficult considering that we are a family with children. We have a two and a half month old baby. We have squeezed together and had to manage on one less floor. It sucks, there’s not much more to describe it.
