Hammarby has had a flying start in the women’s league.
The 3-1 victory away to the expected top team Linköping last time means that “Bajen” have won all four games in the pre-season and that the team is parked at the top of the table.
But ahead of Monday’s derby against Djurgården at the Stadium, we can take that statistic and throw it in the trash.
“A lot of feelings”
Because what has happened earlier in the season does not matter before the rival meeting, says Hammarby’s national team star Madelen Janogy.
“The derby is so special,” she says.
— I didn’t understand it before I came here. But it is not possible to go in with the attitude that we are favourites. There are so many emotions, so many duels. Djurgården is good, we know that, continues Janogy.
“We have many supporters who can be seen and heard, and we will have the greatest support, says Hammarby star Madelen Janogy.
While Janogy does not want to rely on the fine form before the derby, she admits that it still gives Hammarby security.
— It is a proof that we have done the right things. Now it’s about being able to continue driving with that confidence, she says.
Djurgården is the home team in the derby, but it is nevertheless Hammarby that is expected to have the biggest and most support when large crowds are expected at the Stadium.
— We have many supporters who can be seen and heard, and we will have the greatest support, Janogy asserts.
Djurgården refutes
Djurgården has started the season with back-to-back victories against the top teams Rosengård and Häcken, losing against more modest opposition in the form of Norrköping and Örebro.
“Many probably did not guess that we would take three points against those teams. It’s fun to be able to disprove those who thought so and at the same time be able to prove to ourselves that we can actually beat any team in this series. I hope we can take the confidence from those wins with us to the derby, says Djurgården’s Nellie Lilja.
