The explosion in Nyköping is linked to the police’s “death list”

Several residents in the Brandskärr area were woken up at 11.25pm by a loud bang.

An explosion had occurred against a villa and the house’s window panes were shattered by the pressure wave.

– It is a relatively powerful explosive charge, but we do not know what type of explosive charge it is at the moment, says Daniel Eriksson, head of the police department for serious crimes in Nyköping.

Several people were in the home, but no one was physically injured.

– The crime classification is attempted murder and general dangerous devastation, says Daniel Eriksson.

Four violent attacks in a short time

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the target of the explosion is believed to be a 33-year-old gang criminal man who has 17 episodes in the criminal record but has not been convicted of more serious crime.

In recent weeks, three serious violent crimes have occurred in Nyköping. The events, together with last night’s fourth act, are reportedly linked to the same conflict.

– We see this as some kind of internal conflict in Nyköping, all these acts of violence, says Daniel Eriksson.

When the conflict arose, the police drew up a list, based on intelligence, of people believed to be targets for murder. This is according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.

– It is a survey of people who are suspected of planning an act against in connection with the ongoing conflict, says a source to TV4 Nyheterna.

Previous crimes against persons on the list

One of the directly designated targets on the list is a 30-year-old man. He was shot in the leg on August 27 in Nyköping.

A few days later, on August 31, an explosion occurred in the same townhouse area. The crime was, according to the police’s suspicions, directed at the same 30-year-old man, according to Nyheternas sources.

On the night of August 29, a 27-year-old man was shot in the stomach while in an apartment. The shooter was standing outside the residence and shot the victim through the window.

That man is connected to the same target list through a close relative, but is not listed on it himself.

Was blown up despite police protection at the villa

Police chief Daniel Eriksson does not want to confirm in detail TV4 News’ information about the list, but says:

– I know that there is intelligence material that some people have an increased threat image.

Connected to the list, the police have been monitoring the addresses of the possible targets. Among other things, at the 33-year-old’s home address where it was blown up yesterday.

When asked how the deed could take place despite police surveillance, Ludvig Hellman, group leader for police officers on external duty in Nyköping, answers:

– The surveillance that took place at the address has been patrolling, it is not fixed surveillance. There is a group of individuals that this conflict targets. That is why this address has been interesting.

“Expecting more acts of violence – working hard”

The police state that they do not yet have a clear picture of what the ongoing conflict is about, other than that “it is quite isolated between a group of people who live in Nyköping”.

– It is actually very unclear, but we know that we have a conflict between different individuals, says Ludvig Hellman.

The Nyköping police have received reinforcements to break the spiral of violence – which is feared to continue.

– If you look at the course of events that has taken place, we expect that there will be more acts of violence. We then staff and work hard in this environment and around Nyköping.

Members of the public who have made observations or know anything about the violent incidents are asked to contact the police.

– We don’t have much witness information at the moment, but we are keen that people who saw or heard something contact the police. It is important that we are the ones who make the assessment as to whether what a person has seen or heard is important, and not that the person himself makes that assessment, says Daniel Eriksson.
