Erik Karlsson is on his way away from the San Jose Sharks.
William Nylander is reportedly close to leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Now comes shocking information about our Swedish superstars.
The NHL season has been over for a month, but it’s anything but calm when it comes to players and possible moves. And that applies in particular to two of our biggest NHL stars, Erik Karlsson and William Nylander, so both are rumored to be leaving their respective clubs this summer.
The stars seem to leave
Erik Karlsson is coming off a historically good season and it is already clear that there will be a move. Karlsson wants to play for a Stanley Cup contender, while his San Jose Sharks want to begin a rebuilding phase, where getting rid of Karlsson’s expensive contract is an absolute key, to allow more and younger players into the squad.
Meanwhile, William Nylander, who set a personal best in points last season, has just one year left on his contract. He is said to be asking for significantly more money than Toronto is willing to give, and in order for the club not to have to release him “for free” next summer, a move within the next month may be the only solution. And now comes shocking information about both Swedes, which would mean that they are exchanged for each other.

Incredible reputation
According to Toronto journalist Howard Berger, who writes the story on his Twitter, the Maple Leafs and Shark are working on a trade for Erik Karlsson – where William Nylander is the most important piece of the puzzle. It will require a lot of puzzling to get the deal together, not least when it comes to how the salary would be divided, but according to Berger it is all highly probable.
He also writes that in that case a three-pointer would be something that Toronto would win out of.
“I hear that William Nylander is the most important part of the three-talk with San Jose about Erik Karlsson. Other pieces are also included, strategically and financially. Landing Erik Karlsson could break the 56-year long cup drought for the Maple Leafs,” he writes.
