Armand Duplantis was recently awarded the “Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year” award.
Now the price is receiving harsh criticism.
– I think this is crazy, says Miro Zalar to Radiosporten.
As usual now delivered Armand Duplantis properly during the last season. World Cup gold and two new world records are a selection of what this incredible and lovable pole vaulter accomplished this year.
Duplantis is praised
For his achievements, “Mondo” was awarded the award for “Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year” earlier this week by the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics). The distribution took place during a gala in Monaco, where Duplantis was with his girlfriend Desire Inglander.

It was for the second year in a row, and the third time in total, that Armand received the award and was named the world’s best athlete. The first time was in 2020. New for this year is that World Athletics split the prize. Therefore, Duplantis shared the prize with two other practitioners.
Zalar’s criticism
Mondo has admitted that he has now set his sights on winning as many ‘Male Track and Field Athlete of the Year’ awards as Usain Bolt has, that is, six pieces. But Radiosport’s expert Miro Zalar don’t think the price matters as much as it did in Bolt’s time now that it’s split.
– Of course it’s a little devalued, it will be. But I’m not a huge fan of different prizes you can get that aren’t about the actual sporting performance on the track. But the way it is now, it will of course not be the same as when Bolt won six years in a row, says Zalar to Radiosporten.

The former pole vaulter also directs harsh criticism for the award’s new structure.
– I hate that you go on and share prizes. There is only one winner in my eyes. It’s even worse when it’s a championship and you share a gold medal, Olympic gold and WC gold and so on. No, there has to be a winner, so I think this is crazy, says Zalar.
