The expert’s completely unexpected call to Elvira Öberg – which would change everything in the WC: “I hope she listens”

Elvira Öberg doesn’t get it right during the WC.
Now comes the expert Carl-Johan Bergman with an unexpected invitation.
– I hope she listens to me, he says in Radiosporten.

Elvira Öberg entered this year’s WC as Sweden’s great medal hope. During the WC last year, an illness ruined her, and it was with a desire for revenge that she looked forward to another championship. But so far, once again, it hasn’t worked out.

Weak results

Öberg did take part and won a medal in the opening mixed relay, but in the two individual competitions that have taken place so far, the results have not gone in her favor. In Sunday’s pursuit start, Öberg had to struggle again, and she was only the eighth best skater. Afterwards, Elvira Öberg admitted that she is not really in shape, and that she constantly has to toil.

Before the championship, Öberg was most worried about the shooting, but during the opening competitions in this year’s WC it has been the skating that worried him.

– I have to struggle from the first lap today. I get a nice group to join on the first lap, but I can’t ride relaxed and I have to struggle with every meter, she tells SVT.

Unexpected call

But could the solution perhaps be to rest in shape? Radiosport’s expert Carl-Johan Bergman, himself a longtime skier, believes that Öberg should now stand over the upcoming distance, which awaits on Tuesday.

– When she looks the way she does in her body now, I almost think she needs to rest. Get over the distance competition, really get new energy and be ready for the relay and the finished mass start, says Bergman.

In any case, it would be one of the biggest chances of a medal ahead of Öberg in that case.

– I think so. Even if she shoots zero… if she has this riding form, she will have no chance of a medal, says Bergman, and continues:

– I hope she listens to me.
