Areas along the west coast and on Gotland have been particularly affected by increased and extensive mortality among wild birds this summer. The reason is a large outbreak of bird flu.
The Norwegian Veterinary Institute (SVA) has also received a large number of reports of sick and dead wild birds in which several cases of the virus have been found, a disease that normally does not spread during the summer.
Björn Olsen, professor of infectious diseases, believes that precautions should be taken if handling or having close contact in any way.
