The expert on the violence in Great Britain

The massive riots around the UK are something you have never seen before.
Terror researcher Hans Brun thinks so.
– The mix of activists on the same side is something completely new, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.

Six days have passed since the stabbing in Southport. Since then, around ten violent protests have taken place in a number of British cities, including Liverpool and Belfast.

The protests were started by right-wing radical and anti-immigrant groups, but now both British and Irish nationalists have joined – something that has never happened before, according to Hans Brun.

– Typically, British and Irish nationalists don’t confuse you. But now these two sides have united in frustration and dissatisfaction with the migration policy, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.

Fired up library

Close to 150 protesters have been arrested and around the country they have now been forced to open so-called emergency courts which are open 24 hours a day.

– There are also quite serious crimes that have occurred. In Liverpool, they have, among other things, set fire to a library, says Hans Brun.

On Saturday alone, close to 100 people were arrested in connection with the riots, they say Sky News.

– There is a lot in these contexts. And in Great Britain there are no more resources than there are in Sweden.

“Alarming”

The threat picture against Great Britain has been high for a long time, just like in Sweden and for the same reasons.

– But what makes this a little worrying is that much of this is organized on social media. It means an excellent opportunity for, for example, Russia and Iran to worsen the situation at a very low cost, says Hans Brun.

– They can set fire to the rumours. Spreading misinformation and building up the frustration that exists among many.

According to the British media, the protests are expected to continue and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer raises a warning finger to the protesters.

– You will regret being part of this, he says at a press conference.
