In its ninth sanctions package against Russia, the EU Commission presents, among other things, restrictions on the mining, banking and advertising sectors.

Sanctions have been one of Europe’s key means of putting pressure on Russia since the country expanded the war in Ukraine.
The Union’s political leaders agreed on the package on Thursday evening at a summit in Brussels. The package that entered into force today is targeted at Russia’s economy and the country’s ability to continue its battles.
The EU Commission decided to target its sanctions on, among other things, dual-use products and technology that can be useful in the development of Russia’s defense and security sector.
Almost 200 people and communities on the list
The recent decision adds almost 200 new individuals and entities to the EU’s list of persons whose assets will be frozen.
Among others, the Russian armed forces and officers and defense industry companies, members of the Duma and the Federal Council, ministers, as well as Russian representatives and political parties operating in the occupied territories of Ukraine are included.
The strictest restrictions apply to 168 new Russian actors that are closely connected to the Russian military industry.
The EU also expands the ban on exportation in the aviation sector as part of the sanctions package.
In addition, sanctions against Russia’s banking sector will be expanded.
The European Union also started the process to ban the Russian channels NTV/NTV, Rossija 1, REN TV and Pervyi Kanal.
Investments in Russia’s mining sector from the EU are also prohibited, with the exception of certain raw materials.
In addition, in the latest package of sanctions, citizens are prohibited from holding leadership positions in Russian state-owned organizations located in Russia.
