On Saturday, EU High Representative for External Relations Josep Borrell gave Israel the all-clear for the country’s military actions in the Gaza Strip. In addition to the civilians in Gaza, Borrell is concerned about the spread of the war.
– Gazans are no longer just being bombed, now they are also starving, known for their loud statements Josep Borrell said.
In addition to the Israeli armed forces, the settlers of the West Bank had something to say. According to Borrell, “the increasing violence of the West Bank settlers cannot be watched from the sidelines”.
According to Borrell, the war that started with the surprise attack of the terrorist organization Hamas in October is a continuation of the region’s hopeless recent history. Borrell called the development of the last decades in the region “miserable, terrible” and said that “nothing good has happened since the Oslo peace agreement”.
According to Borrell, it is no longer possible to continue on the same line, and the conker politician sees a two-state model as a solution.
– Gaza is part of a bigger Palestinian issue. Gaza will be part of the future Palestinian state, Borrell said.
The EU will not spare effort so that the two-state solution finally becomes a reality, Borrell vowed.
“No one benefits from a regional conflict”
Borrell made the comments at a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Lebanon By Najib Mikat with during his visit to Beirut. Both were concerned about the heated exchange of fire between Israel and the Hezbollah extremist organization on the “Blue Line” between Israel and Lebanon.
Hezbollah said today that it had hit Israel with dozens of missiles. The attacks are revenge for the assassination of the Hamas leader in Beirut.
Borrell said he communicated to Israel that no one wins if the fighting spreads from Gaza to other nearby areas.
– It is absolutely decisive that Lebanon is not dragged into a regional conflict, Borrell said.
According to Borrell, the region’s descent into war can still be avoided through diplomacy. Next, the Spaniard said that he will travel to Saudi Arabia, where he says that “steps towards peace in the Middle East” will be discussed on Sunday.
