The European Court of Justice restores Puigdemonts immunity

In Spain, Catalan EU parliamentarian Carles Puigdemonts is accused of rebellion and incitement in connection with Catalonia’s independence attempt five years ago.

The European Court of Justice is now restoring Puigdemont’s immunity, along with two other MEPs who are also accused by Spain of similar crimes.

Carles Puigdemont has lived in exile in Belgium since 2017, accused by Spain of, among other things, rebellion and incitement in connection with Catalonia’s independence attempt four years ago.

In the autumn, Puigdemont was arrested in Italy, where he is said to have traveled in his role as a member of the European Parliament.

Following the restoration of immunity, the judges of the European Court of Justice will now investigate the case further.
