The ethics case: Police investigated insurance money as a possible motive

The parents were considered early on to be the only reasonable suspects. At the beginning of the investigation, the heading “attempted murder” was included – but was deleted before prosecution.

Prosecutor Ingegerd Jigin described during the first day of the trial a scenario where the parents’ actions towards the girl may have “gone out of control” on the night of Christmas Eve 2022. Then the girl came into the emergency room in Lund after ingesting vinegar. The girl’s stomach had to be surgically removed.

The fact that the parents actually went to the hospital, the prosecutor believes, indicates that the parents had no intention of harming the girl so badly.

Extensive suspicions

The parents are charged with several cases of serious assault, illegal deprivation of liberty and serious breach of peace.

In addition to ingesting vinegar, the girl must, among other things, have been locked in the laundry room in a car seat wearing only a diaper, starved and exposed to prolonged cooling.

No clear motive

No clear motive has emerged during the investigation. But the investigators and the prosecutor have investigated several leads. Including a conceivable financial motive that shows up in text messages between the parents.

See the parents’ text message conversation in the clip above.

The parents have denied all criminal suspicions throughout the investigation. The subject image is still unclear.
