Kristen Michal will take over as prime minister from the position of climate minister.

In Estonia, the country’s parliament has approved a new prime minister on Monday Kristen Michalinwho is currently serving as climate minister.

The 49-year-old Michal replaces the one who served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from 2021 Kaja Kallasen. Kallas gave up the position of prime minister last week to become the EU’s high representative for foreign and security policy.

Like Kallas, Michal represents the Reform Party of Estonia, and will lead the government formed by the Reform Party, the Estonia-200 Party and the Social Democrats.

In addition to the vote of the parliament, Michal’s election also requires the president Alar Karinsen confirmation. According to the Estonian Broadcasting Corporation ERR, Karis is scheduled to confirm the appointment on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.

The new government will be sworn in on Tuesday in the Riigikogu, the Estonian parliament.
