Football legend Kurt “Kurre” Hamrin has died, the Italian club Fiorentina has announced. No one will forget his iconic solo goal from the 1958 World Cup.
He lived to be 89 years old.

“Hamrin was and always will be a legend for all football fans and especially for Fiorentina fans. He still holds the record for goals in the purple shirt together with Batistuta,” the club wrote on Instagram.
“With the lily on his chest, he won the Cup Winners’ Cup and two Italian Cups and has inextricably linked his life to the city of Florence.”

WC legends

Hamrin was the last player alive who was on the pitch in the classic World Cup match against Brazil in 1958 when Sweden took World Cup silver.

In addition, the classic 3–1 goal at Ullevi in ​​the WC semi-final against West Germany stands out as one of the most beautiful Swedish national team goals ever.

Owe OhlssonWC 1958 friend of Hamrin, remembers an incredibly skilled footballer.
– He had an incredible ability to get past his opponents and then he was also quite dangerous, says Ohlsson to TT.

Hamrin was born in 1934 in Stockholm. He mostly played right winger and made a name for himself in Swedish and Italian league football between 1952 and 1971. In total, there were 190 goals in the Italian top flight, ninth most ever.

He played in big clubs like Juventus, Padova, Fiorentina, Milan and Napoli and lived in Italy since 1956, but his heart beat in death for yellow and black AIK.

Hamrin’s life

In a report, Aftonbladet told about “Kurre’s” upbringing and how the mother Elna got a job at the State’s bacteriological laboratory in Solna. The shipment went to Rudsjögatan, not far from Råsunda. He started playing football in Huvudsta IS and soon found his way to the national arena where he planked in through the carousel gates.

Father Karl also played football but had training with Maria Sportklubb to think about.
– I remember when I was a little boy watching the matches at Råsunda. One of the funniest was when AIK played 7-7 against an English team – after being down 1-7, Hamrin told Aftonbladet.

The Swedish Football Association writes on Instagram: “One of Swedish football’s biggest icons has left us. Rest in peace Kurt ‘Kurre’ Hamrin.”

The association further writes that he was a big factor in the World Cup silver in 1958 and that he is a legend in AIK and Fiorentina for his efforts in the clubs.

The chairman of the association Fredrik Reinfeldt speaks out on the association’s website.
“One of Swedish football’s greatest players has passed away. We remember Kurt Hamrin with warmth, gratitude and pride and he will always be an important part of our blue-yellow history. Kurt Hamrin was a ball artist whose qualities led to fantastic success, not least in the World Cup on home soil in 1958 when Sweden won silver. His move to Italy opened the door for the next generation of Swedish players in European football. Our thoughts go out to Kurt Hamrin’s family and the bereaved.”

“Kurre” Hamrin was 89 years old.
