The commissioning of the first EPR at the Hinkley Point C power plant in England has now been postponed by at least 2 years, or even 4 years, for delivery now expected at best in 2029, or even 2030 or 2031 depending on the scenarios, announced this Tuesday, January 23, EDF.
EDF indicates that it has “reestimated the expected duration” of the electro-mechanical assembly work (cables and pipes) when this phase is just beginning. Taking into account these new deadlines, the cost of the project is now “estimated in a range between 31 and 34 billion pounds in 2015 values”, announced the energy company, i.e. an additional cost of 6 to 8 billion pounds (7 to 8 billion pounds). 9.3 billion euros) compared to the last revision in 2022.
The French utility currently manages the UK’s eight nuclear power plant sites, five in production (Sizewell B, Torness, Heysham 2, Heysham 1, Hartlepool) and three in the fuel unloading phase (Hunterston B, Hinkley Point B and Dungeness B). London intends to build up to eight new reactors by 2050.
