The end of The Crown series divides viewers

It is one of the most popular series on Netflix, the streaming platform. “The Crown”, which has been telling the behind-the-scenes story of the British royal family for seven years, is bowing out: the sixth and final season begins airing this Thursday. The ten episodes should deal with the meeting between Prince William and his wife Kate, the marriage of Charles and Camilla, but especially the death of Diana. And viewers are rather divided.

From our correspondent in London,

The sixth season of The Crown covers the years 1997 to 2005. Emily is eager to see on screen events that she herself followed in the newspapers, such as the meeting between Kate and Prince William at university: “ I entered university at the same time as them. And I remember some people applied for St Andrews because Prince William was going there! It will be really interesting to see, especially since they are public figures now, so I can’t wait to see their debut. »

On the other hand, Shirley, who had watched the beginning of the series, refuses to relive this period: “ The first seasons were very interesting, but I think they shouldn’t have gone that far. Diana’s death is a lack of taste. I liked seeing her meeting with Prince Charles, their first years… But I didn’t like the ending and I don’t want to see that again. »

” That’s not the truth »

The narrative liberties taken by director Peter Morgan had already caused controversy. Netflix reminds us that it is a fiction, inspired by real events, as Paola, 20, points out: “ It’s such a contemporary period, which still has repercussions, it’s great to see how it’s treated. But you have to look at it with an open mind: it’s a series, it’s not the truth. »

The second part of the season will be released in December.
