Maxton Hall – The World Between Us has become a global sensation on Amazon Prime * and now countless fans are eagerly awaiting the quickly ordered second season of the film adaptation of the young adult novel. Anyone who knows the books will, however, be wondering whether the even more dramatic ending will be added later. The ending was toned down a bit for the first season: The original Save Me * by the German author Mona Kasten goes even further.
Maxton Hall ends differently than the book – what does that mean for season 2 on Amazon?
The teen series Maxton Hall tells the love story of Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) and James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) at the eponymous school. She comes from a poor background and studies at the prestigious college on a scholarship in order to one day make it to Oxford University. He comes from a wealthy family with an influential fashion house and has only had to follow his father’s instructions to achieve success.
Despite their initial hostility, sparks soon fly at Maxton Hall and Ruby and James fall in love. Against all odds, they find each other… but then a tragedy occurs at the end of season 1. (Warning, more to come Spoilers for the Amazon series and the novel.)

Maxton Hall: Ruby & James
The end of the first season of the Amazon series Maxton Hall goes like this: When James comes home from an interview at Oxford to take his future into his own hands against his domineering father Mortimer Beaufort (Fedja van Huêt), he learns that his mother Cordelia (Clelia Sarto) has died of a sudden stroke. He goes mad and attacks his father, who kept the loss of their mother from the children for two days. Afterwards he only sees Ruby’s happy family from outside through the window of their house.
The end of the Maxton Hall book Save Me makes the situation even more dramatic: After the shock of his mother’s death, James throws himself into a wild party with his old friends, gets very drunk and openly smooches his former lover by the pool. Ruby witnesses this and flees the party, heartbroken.

The novel puts a temporary stop to the happy ending, while Season 1 on Amazon leaves room for some hope at the end despite the terrible loss of parents. It is likely, however, that the series will Twist for season 2 to send the ups and downs of Ruby and James’ relationship into another tailspin.
When is Maxton Hall season 2 coming to Amazon Prime?
The second season of Maxton Hall has just been ordered by Amazon, so filming has not yet begun. However, problems at the filming location could cause unexpected delays: Due to mold, Marienburg Castle was closed at the end of 2023.
Nevertheless, the creatives behind Maxton Hall will of course do their best after the streaming success. If the scripts are finished this year, we can already 2025 expect the hit series to return to Prime.
