The Elder Scrolls Online Gold Road Preview

In our The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road preview article, we go to the West Weald region, which we are familiar with from Oblivion, with Gold Road, the newest episode of TESO.

We also received an invitation for the Gold Road expansion of The Elder Scrolls Online, which Bethesda introduced yesterday. At the presentation organized by Creative Director Rich Lambert and Senior Community Manager Gina Bruno, we had the opportunity to obtain various information about the new Chapter and get answers to some of our questions. The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Preview Let’s see what awaits us in the update with our article.

We are going to the West Weald region, which we are familiar with from Oblivion, with Gold Road, the newest Chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online, a MMORPG genre set in the Elder Scrolls universe. Moreover, a Deadric Prince, who is rarely mentioned in the Elder Scrolls universe but we have not encountered before, is waiting for us.

The Forgotten Deadric Prince Returns

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road is a fully loaded package, just like the previous development packages (Chapter). Many new features are waiting for us, such as a region containing three different areas that we know from Oblivion, the chance to learn information about the Ayleid (forest) elves that we have not seen before, and Scribing, a system close to the Spellcrafting system that TES players are familiar with. But the part that caught my attention the most was the introduction of a brand new Deadric Prince to the players, whom we have not seen before except for very small information.

The story of the Necrom package, published last year, ended in a way that they normally do, at a very exciting point, with an event that can be called a “cliffhanger”. Daedric Prince Ithelia, who was erased from the memories of everyone except Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora, who can be called the main character of Necrom, is free again and is slowly regaining his memories. So who is he, what is he, what effect does he have on Tamriel, and who released him? We expect to learn the answers to these questions in the upcoming pre-Chapter update and the Necrom package that will be released in the summer.

After Ithelia appeared in the trailer, we of course asked Rich Lambert a lot of questions about her, aside from the fact that we knew very little about her, we also asked for her concept images and wallpapers. Unfortunately, most of these questions remain unanswered, Ithelia’s quest to regain her memories and what happens next will be our experience for ourselves. But he is a powerful Deadric Prince, known as the “Fate-Changer”, who has the ability to shape fate as he wishes. Now that he’s freed and starting to regain his memories, we don’t think he’ll ignore what happened. (They didn’t provide wallpaper either)

The Gold Road adventure we will follow Ithelia will take place in the West Weald region, some of which we had the chance to visit in Oblivion. This region is divided into three. Outside of the main city of Skingrad, there is The Gold Road, the mountainous Colovian Highlands, and the Valenwood Annexation, which impossibly transforms into a rainforest overnight. The confusion of the people who sleep at home in the evening and see the tree passing through them in the morning is understandable. I say we will examine this too.

Last year, the Arcanist class was added to the game with Necrom. This year, instead of a new class with Gold Road, a different version of a system much requested by the players is coming to the game, Scribing. It is not as advanced a system as Spellcrafting, but we will have customizable abilities thanks to Scribing. According to Lambert, who answered our questions, the Scribing system will have three different variables. First of all, we will select the Grimoire in which we determined the main ability, and then we will make changes with the Scripts we will use for customization. The last part is Ink, which we can see as the source of this system, that is, we will write the skill with ink.

In the example they presented to us, an archer who jumped back while shooting an arrow could use Scribing to change the properties of this arrow and make the arrow he shot while jumping back have poisonous or healing properties. When asked how the skill used by opposing players will be distinguished as a result of these changes, he said: “The main skill will be constant, so no matter what kind of customizations a player makes, you will still know what he is using because he will jump into the air and shoot arrows.” So we won’t have the chance to create completely different new abilities, but the customization system seems quite extensive even as it is.

With the Styling system that comes in conjunction with Scribing, we will be able to make visual improvements by adding some colors to our skills. For now, this system will work with simple things like changing skill colors, but according to Lambert, the door to creating new effects and special skins is always open in the future.

10th Anniversary of The Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road will have almost everything we expect from a new ESO Chapter. There will be an adventure that I think will be long and enjoyable, a quest specific to the Scribing system, new world events, a new Trial for 12 people and new Public Dungeons. The companion NPC characters (Companions), which started to be added to the game in 2021 and which we are accustomed to coming with new Chapter add-ons, are a little delayed this time. Saying that they want to focus more on the story side, Lambert stated that our new companions will not come at the beginning of the package, but will come after the package is released, probably towards the end of the year.

Another topic mentioned during the presentation was about the anniversary events of The Elder Scrolls Online, which has been in our lives for exactly 10 years. Although PC players celebrated the 10th anniversary of the game, they said that they had different plans since it was released 1 year later on the console side and that they were planning a big event in 2025. We saw at the presentation last night that the 10th anniversary celebrations will last almost 15 months! I don’t know if a celebration is being held in Turkey, but I will follow this issue.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Chapter will be released on June 3 for PC/Mac users. Players playing on Xbox and PlayStation consoles will be able to access the new package on June 18. By the way, we also asked Lambert questions about cross-play, but this does not seem to be in the plans at the moment. I can’t imagine the chaos that would occur with a possible cross-play.

Before Gold Road, the first DLC called Scions of Ithelia will be released to ensure the flow of the story. In this PvE DLC, the dungeons named Oathsword Pit and Bedlam Veil will come and we will see the introduction of the things that will happen in Gold Road as a result of the events that take place. Scions of Ithelia’s new dungeon DLC is coming to PC/Mac players on March 11, while players on Xbox and PlayStation consoles will be able to access the new DLC on March 26.
