Among the numerous new weapons in the Elden Ring DLC, players have found one that works particularly well against the difficult bosses. The community’s reactions are effusive – but there are still some critical voices.
Which weapon is it? The DLC Shadow of the Erdtree has added over 100 new weapons to the main game Elden Ring. Depending on your play style, there is something for everyone. You can find some of the coolest new weapons right at the start, before you’ve even defeated one of the tough bosses.
Currently, a new type of weapon is making a lot of noise: the shock shield. The Carian shock shield in particular is an ideal tool for surviving the fight against the bosses.
Because you can hide behind it, block the enemy’s attacks and attack at the same time. However, the first players who have tested the build fear that it could soon be nerfed.
That doesn’t stop the majority of the community from using the weapon now and making life in the Shadowlands easier.

The community loves the new shields
What do the players say? In a Reddit post, user DamnHare speaks for many others when he writes:
“The new shock shields are the most powerful weapons in the entire game and by no means a small margin. The NG+ in the DLC was absolutely destroyed. Shock shields can be enchanted with any affinity/damage type, making them extremely versatile.”

Many other users join in the praise: “I love the bumper shield, and you tell me there’s more than one?” writes UB-iK on Reddit.
“Yes, I defeated the final boss with it,” writes Drstrangelove899 under the Reddit post. However, this requires that you know how to use the weapon correctly.
Users like goshagrim on Reddit didn’t realize until this post that you could use the impact shields to block and attack at the same time. He didn’t understand why everyone liked the weapons so much. But after trying out the shields, most players are very impressed.
Is there any criticism? As is often the case, not all of the community’s comments are positive. Reddit user nisanosa finds this style of play “extremely boring, to be honest.”
SecXy94 also agrees with the Reddit post and says: “I couldn’t play the game like that. I would be bored to death.”
The impact shields are therefore not the right choice for every type of player. If you want to be agile and prefer to avoid enemy attacks by skillfully rolling instead of blocking them, you will find better weapons in Elden Ring.
It remains to be seen how long the impact shields will remain so powerful. Perhaps we’ll soon see a nerf that weakens the weapon. The same could happen to another powerful new addition to the DLC: a perfume bottle that makes short work of the final boss.
