The Einár murder now a cold case: “Will not move forward”

The artist Nils Grönberg, best known as Einár, was murdered on October 21, 2021.
It was the start of an extensive and intensive investigation – which led nowhere.
– We are not getting any further and there is a great risk that the murder will remain unsolved, says District Attorney Lucas Ericksson to TV4 Nyheterna.

In the first year after the murder, the police held almost 350 interrogations.

In October last year, the police announced that they believe they know which persons belonging to a criminal group are behind the shooting death.

Nevertheless, the investigation has now been moved to the police’s cold case pile, according to prosecutor Lucas Eriksson.

Prosecutor: Sad

Late in the evening on October 21, 2021, Nils “Einár” Grönberg was shot from close range outside an apartment gate in Hammarby sjöstad in Stockholm. The then 19-year-old artist was one of Sweden’s most streamed on Spotify and the murder was internationally rewritten.

The police investigation swelled to hundreds of interrogations and tens of trace analyzes at NFC. However, the murder weapon could not be identified.

– It is sad, but the chance of the case being resolved is small, says District Attorney Lucas Eriksson, who also led the investigation.

He does not want to comment further on investigation measures and suspects in the investigation. Since it is a murder case, there will be no statute of limitations.

Court of Appeal verdict on kidnapping today

Some time before Nils Grönberg was murdered, he had also been subjected to a high-profile kidnapping. In that case, several people were convicted, including a gang leader in his 30s who received 13 years in prison for the violent and humiliating abduction.

Today at 11 o’clock the Court of Appeal’s judgment in the case will be announced.
