In France, the Sunday newspaper does not appear today July 9 for the third consecutive week, the journalists continue their strike. They oppose the appointment as editor of Geoffroy Lejeune, former director of the far-right magazine Current Values. The writing on strike which today challenges the President of the Republic in an open letter.
In this letter published in its entirety by our colleagues fromWest Francejournalists from JDD deplore that since the beginning of the conflict with the management, discretion has prevailed on the side of the executive, so many personalities and organizations have publicly expressed their support for the journalists on strike.
” Will our editorial staff die in silence? โ, still wonders this letter which urges the president to keep one of his campaign promises for 2022: the organization of the general assembly of the right to information.

A historic strike
It is necessary to “guarantee the independence of editorial staff and the impartiality of information”, believes Bertrand Greco, co-president of the Society of Journalists of JDD : โ We are asking for legal independence of the editorial staff which would allow journalists to have their say on the appointment of a director, on strong editorial choices, such as front pages, covers, on articles that would be problematic. ยป
The non-appearance for the third week in a row of the JDD is an unprecedented event for this newspaper in seventy-five years of existence.
