The EC match canceled after severe thunderstorms

It was 0-0 when it started to lighten and rain heavily over the Signal Iduna Park arena in Dortmund. The British referee, Michael Oliver, was forced to call off the match after just over half an hour of play.

The players went into the dressing room, but after a break of about 25 minutes, the EC match between Germany and Denmark could be resumed again after the thunderstorm.

“The match has been canceled due to the weather conditions. More information coming soon,” read the big screens inside the arena.

Pictures from the football arena showed how soaked spectators danced in the heavy rain after the match was interrupted.

Earlier on Saturday, German meteorologist Dominik Jung sounded the alarm that a severe thunderstorm was expected to occupy parts of Germany.

– Tornado is not out of the question, meteorologist Domonik Jung told Bild.
