The drug war in Sundsvall: The police deploy surveillance cameras

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The drug trade in Sundsvall is said to be a strong contributor to the recent gang violence in Stockholm. According to the police, two different criminal groups are fighting to control the drug trade and at the end of January the police made a large raid in Sundsvall, now a total of eleven people are in custody.

The police are now expanding the fight against drugs by setting up about ten temporary surveillance cameras in the residential areas of Nacksta and Skönsberg.

– Yes, now we’re probably trying this too, using cameras as an aid, says Christian Hald, coordinator of the police’s camera project in Västernorrland.

More cameras in the future

Among other things, the cameras are borrowed from other parts of the county and are only planned to be up for three months, it is governed by the camera law. But if necessary, they can also remain for a longer time.

– The new government has said that they want both us in the police and also the municipality to invest more in the future, says Christian Hald.
