The dream is coming true for Swedish super talent Leo Carlsson – now he gets the news he’s been waiting for

Leo Carlsson went second in the draft.
Now comes the dream message for the super talent.
The Swede has signed his very first NHL contract.

Leo Carlsson comes from an absolutely brilliant season in the SHL, which took him all the way to the WC. The Örebro player has had a huge breakthrough and before the draft he was rumored to go really high, even as high as the top three.

The new dream message

But not many had expected that he would go already as second. Many were surprised when the Anaheim Ducks did not select the expected runner-up Adam Fantilli, but instead went for the Swedish super talent. Where Carlsson will play next season, whether he stays in North America or returns to Örebro, is still unclear.

But now at least a dream message has reached the Swede. The Anaheim Ducks didn’t waste any more time, but yesterday offered a three-year rookie contract to Carlsson. This means that in the coming years, Carlsson is guaranteed roughly SEK 10 million annually, but if things go really well for him, and if the bonuses included in the contract are activated, the sum can rise all the way to SEK 30 million a year.

The future unclear

Information in Anaheim, from informed reporters, has claimed that Leo Carlsson will join the Ducks now during the summer and above all in the big camp in September, in order to then fight for a place in the NHL. However, the Ducks should be open to all scenarios – including sending him down to the farm league for a season, or lending him back to the SHL.

In addition, the NHL contracts for rookies do not start to apply until ten games have been played, so there is also a possibility that Leo Carlsson will be tested at the beginning of the season, and that Carlsson will then be sent either to the AHL, or to the SHL. Leo Carlsson scored 25 points in 44 games in the SHL last season, so it would be an extremely welcome addition for Örebro if Carlsson were to return.
