The anime of Assassination Classroom has an iconic figure as the main character. The man’s draftsman, Yusei Matsui, revealed in an interview how the unusual alien came about.
Why is the main character an alien? Koro-Sesei is an alien that teaches school class 3-E for one year. He has a striking yellow skin tone, several tentacles and a face that consists of only two small eyes and a gigantic mouth. It looks like a mixture of octopus and man.

As Matsui reveals in an interview, he actually wanted to use Koro-Sensei in another manga. However, since he never published it, he was able to use the design of the alien for assassination classroom.
He also admits that he has drawn Koro-Sesei out of laziness:
With a new manga, I knew that he just had to be. Simple, simple, simple. The easier it is, the more universal things are communicated. In addition to the octopus, the other shape that I considered was a slimy blob. The reason for this is that both are very easy to draw. He has no joints and no hands to draw. As you can see, he has tentacles, so he is very easy to draw.
The popular alien almost turned into a slimy man, and only because the mangaka wanted it to be as simple as possible when drawing.
