The broad S&P 500 index rose barely perceptibly, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index fell 0.2 percent.
Technology companies continued to lose, and among the losers was Facebook’s parent company Meta, which lost 2.7 percent.
Netflix, retreated 2.3 percent after Thursday’s fall of 8.4 percent. Apple and Tesla also retreated, with 0.6 and 1.1 percent respectively.
Friday’s big winner was Digital World Acquisition Corp, which owns Donald Trump’s social media platform Truth Social. The company rose more than 50 percent after reaching a settlement with the US financial regulator SEC.
