On Sunday evening, a woman in Robertsfors in Västerbotten was killed by her own dog. The dog first attacked a man in the woman’s home. The woman tried to ward off the attack by taking the dog outside, but was bitten herself so badly that she died from the injuries.
It is not the first time that the dog has attacked people. Two years ago, the dead woman’s grandson was allegedly bitten by the dog in both legs. The now deceased woman then stated to the County Administrative Board that she had given the dog away, but this was never followed up on.
– We do not supervise on site. Therefore, we do not make home visits and check that it is correct. There is a registration requirement, you have to register your dogs, but unfortunately not everyone follows the regulations, says Annelie Grip Hansson, who is the county veterinarian in Västerbotten.
After the woman was bitten to death, county veterinarian Annelie Grip Hansson made the decision to immediately euthanize the dog to protect the environment. Another dog was at the address, and it has been taken into care with the support of the Animal Welfare Act.
