The dog team fell several meters – see Sven’s pictures from Jämtlandsfjällen

Sven Wirén, Rännberg, in Åre municipality, has driven dog sleds for many years and trains the dogs in all kinds of weather, regardless of whether it is sunshine or snowstorm.

But when he went on a peak ride with the dog team on Mullfjället last weekend, the weather changed. The wind picked up and the fog. Sight disappeared.

The area is steep and known for drifts forming there and can be treacherous.

The dogs disappeared in a “wind wake”

In the middle of the trail, the dogs in front of him suddenly disappeared. They fell and he himself was about to be dragged along. He was standing on the edge of what is colloquially known as a “wind wake”: a large depression in the snow, caused by strong wind, which has appeared in the middle of the trail.

– In the air I had time to think that I have to land on my feet, otherwise I will hurt myself, says Sven Wirén.

Despite having been out on many trips over the years, the dramatic event was not something he had experienced before.

In the video, you can see Sven Wirén’s own photos from the event.
