Luqman, 10, was badly injured when a stray dog attacked and bit him on the arm. His father Ahmed demands that the dog be euthanized and his son has been forced to undergo double operations.
– We want a trial against those who are responsible. It is irresponsible, the dog was not connected, he says, he tells TV4 Nyheterna.
Janina Pfalzer, press officer at the Swedish Kennel Club, agrees that the dog should be euthanized.
– Dog owners have strict ownership responsibility. If you get hold of this owner, I assume that he will have to answer for what the dog has done. He must do that according to the law. As for euthanasia… It is up to the county board, but if you have been attacked four times then you may not be rehabilitated, she says.
Then it should be euthanized?
– Yes. I think so in this case. For the dog’s sake too.
The same dog has attacked before
The same dog has been involved in a total of four attacks since August. First it bit another dog to death in Halland and the county administration demanded a leash and muzzle, but did not manage to reach the owner.
In December, it attacked a boy in Halland and a girl in Skåne. There, the boy suffered serious injuries. As the attacks took place in different places, it took a long time for the authorities to connect that it was the same dog.
Janina Pfalzer reacted strongly to the incident and believes that there are problems in the system.
– It is terrible. It goes straight to the heart. It is terrible that he needs to experience this, she says.
The Swedish Kennel Club does not believe in bans
There are many who now believe that this type of dog should be banned. This is something Janina Pfalzer does not believe in at all.
– If there was such a simple solution that would remedy this, we would say, yes, why not? But the thing is that we know it doesn’t help, she says.
A decision on euthanasia has not yet been made and Violetta Delgado, administrator at the county board in Halland, answers why it has not been taken care of after the previous attacks.
– There have been three different attacks on children in three different counties. In each incident, different people have been responsible for the dog. The County Administrative Board in Halland has not really been able to locate the animal owner, where he is, she says.
