Seven-year-old dog Shiva, from the village of Niemisel outside Luleå, was panicked by New Year’s fireworks and ran away – something that got the whole village involved.
Only after eight days outside, where the temperature fluctuated between 35 and 40 degrees below zero, was the dog found well-preserved.
– I didn’t think she would be in such good condition when and if we were to find her, says Shiva’s mother Inger Lindholm.
Thick fur and subcutaneous fat
According to the vet that TV4 Nyheterna spoke to, many dogs would not have made it given the cold weather.
But thanks to his thick fur, his subcutaneous fat, and the fact that it was dry and windless, Shiva was able to survive a week in the extreme cold.
Tell us about the feelings when you found her.
– Yes, what do you say, it can’t be put into words. It was something fantastic, it was the best present you could have received in your entire life, says Inger Lindholm.
