Making the bed in the morning is something that many people learn from childhood. We wake up, smooth out the covers and add pillows and bedspreads. It feels both nice and fresh – but is it really good for our hygiene? Marie-Louise Danielsson Tham, veterinarian, cleaning expert and professor of food hygiene at Örebro University, believes that we should not make the bed. The reason is that a warm and moist bed is a mite’s paradise.

– Because we sweat around a deciliter when we sleep, the bed becomes an excellent home and breeding ground for mites. By folding up the bedding and airing it thoroughly every morning, we destroy the cozy bed environment for the mites. If we then leave the bed “folded up” during the day, i.e. do not make the bed in the morning, it becomes even more unpleasant, explains Danielsson Tham in an interview to Live & Live.
