The digital vital card is now available for everyone in the mobile application of the same name, via France Identity. She offers the same functions as her physical counterpart, and even more.

As promised, the government continues to digitize public services. A movement now generalized in our society, especially for transport titles and stamps.

And, after the digital identity card with France Identity and the digital driving license, it is the good old vital card which gradually passes into a dematerialized version. It was already available via a mobile application baptized simply vital card – available on the Play Store for Android and the App Store for Apple devices – in 23 departments, during a progressive deployment (see our article). From now on, the application opens to the whole of France through France Identity. It is therefore imperative to have the famous electronic identity card to be able to use it.

The dematerialized vital card is accessible for everyone on smartphone and tablet via the “Vital Card” application. It contains all user identification data, namely the National Health Identifier (INS), basic personal information (including the famous Social Security Number), a CT QR and Use follow-up data, and allows access to SESAM-VITAL invoicing (teletransmission), integrated teleservices of compulsory health insurance (AMO) and pharmaceutical files (for pharmacists). In addition, an internet connection is not necessary to use the application.

To activate your digital vital card regardless of where you live in France, it is necessary to link it to France Identity, an application also accessible on Android and iOS and which allows holders of an electronic identity card (CNIE), launched in 2021, to dematerialize their identity document and their driving license-but the France Identity app does not accommodate the vital card itself, even if it is planned in the future. Connecting the two makes it possible to fight against social fraud, a great workhorse of the new government (see our article).

To activate your vital card on the eponymous application through France Identity, follow the following steps:

► Download the Vital Card app to your smartphone then launch it;

► Press the green button To startin the base of the screen;

► Wait for a few moments, then accept the conditions of use by pressing the blue button Accept ;

► Scan or enter your social security number, which you will find on the front of your physical vital card;

► Be sure to have configured the France Identity app on your smartphone. The vital card application will then question it. There follows a connection request that you must accept;

► Scan the front of your identity card (the new format therefore) by pressing the blue button Scan your cardthen type your personal code for verification;

► Then launch the contactless reading of your identity card, by sticking it on the back of the smartphone, via NFC communication. To do this, you should press the blue button Start reading ;

► Press Continue And add a security code, which will serve you to lock the application, and confirm it. And now, the Vitale card application is now activated on your laptop!

For those who do not yet have a national electronic identity card (CNIE), it will always be possible to dematerialize their vital card via the vital card application only, provided you reside in one of the twenty-three eligible departments:

More than 400,000 of the 17 million French people holding a vital card have already taken the process. Be careful, even by dematerializing your vital card, you should not throw your physical version for all that! Although the application is increasingly accessible, healthcare professionals are not yet all equipped to read the QR code it displays. It is therefore better to keep the good old plastic card, in case.
