The Diablo 4 beta is going down really well, but 2 things bother players

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Diablo 4’s first major beta test is slowly coming to an end. On the penultimate day of the closed beta, many players already have an opinion about the first few hours in the game. The overwhelming majority is looking forward to Diablo 4 positively. But there are some criticisms.

This is the beta:

  • The Diablo 4 Early Access beta runs from March 17th to 20th for pre-orders and anyone who was able to get hold of a key.
  • Of the 5 classes from Diablo 4, only hunter, sorceress and barbarian can be played here. Experience is capped at level 25 and the first act of the game.
  • After long queues and server problems caused displeasure on the evening of release, the days that followed were largely problem-free.
  • All information about the beta can be found here:

This goes down well: On Reddit and other social media, players are now sharing how they found the beta. The atmosphere and the gameplay are particularly praised. The dark approach is well received. There were big doubts shortly before the beta.

Diablo 4 is a successful successor to the series, strongly reminiscent of the favorites Diablo 2 and the remake Resurrected. Some fans are even convinced: Diablo 4 is already better than Diablo 3 in the beta.

It is seen as a particularly good feature that you can pet dogs in Diablo 4 – even if, according to fans, you shouldn’t do that better. But that alone makes the game 110% better, some users joke.

Even the story of Diablo 4 is already a great feature that has never been so good in the series. Gameplay from the beta can be seen here:

    Sterile UI and repetitive dungeons

This bothers the players: There is still criticism of Diablo 4. Many players suggest improvements such as minor UI tweaks or an extra tab for gems in the inventory. The fact that there is no map overlay is also bad.

Two criticisms come up frequently and receive a lot of encouragement from other commenters.

First point: The UI itself and the font in which numbers and text are displayed. It all seems too sterile and clean, and doesn’t fit the gloomy mood at all. Some are even reminded of mobile games. “It feels like I’m reading a spreadsheet,” criticized one gamer in a thread with 1,700 upvotes on Reddit.

The second point is the dungeons. Diablo 4 offers well over 100 different dungeons in which you can find opponents, bosses and even guaranteed legendary aspects. You enter dungeons alone or with a group, but never with random strangers like in the open world.

The criticism here is that the dungeons are too repetitive. The layout is a little different each time, but basically you always do the same thing: collect 2-3 items in different wings, unlock the boss room with them, kill the final boss.

In the long run, it’s boring if there’s no variety. Already the available dungeons in Act 1 are no fun, according to a much discussed thread.

Skepticism also reaps the fact that the shop is not yet in beta. After the Diablo Immortal debacle, many fans are now suspicious and would like to know in advance what to buy in the shop.

What is surprisingly well received is the initially controversial feature of the shared world. You can find out everything about multiplayer here:

What is still improving? Some players appease that in the beta you’re only at level 25 after all. Things like enemy density and challenge would come later. Currently only 2 of the difficulty levels can be set.

Blizzard has set up a Beta Feedback forum to collect criticism. However, it remains to be seen how much of this will be implemented. The release is still a few weeks away, Diablo 4 will not appear until June 6, 2023.

You might even see some changes in the open beta on March 24th. We will keep you updated as more becomes known. The important thing is that Diablo 4 is really good. Not only for Blizzard, but for all games of the genre:
