The Witcher 4 is highly anticipated by fans. At Studio CD Projekt Red, some veterans of the series are working on the new part. One of them has even been there from the beginning.
What’s the status of The Witcher 4? The successor to the now almost 10-year-old predecessor was announced at the Game Awards 2024. The first, long trailer caused a stir. Not least because Part 4 focuses on Geralt’s foster daughter Ciri.
In the trailer she appears as a sorcerer and fights against a fearsome creature. The developers have emphasized that they are committed to the lore of the template and do not want to deviate greatly from it. The employees at CD Projekt Red who take care of the story are mainly responsible for this.
However, some fans fear that the series could develop in a new direction ten years after Witcher 3. User Syarofi_ibn_Zamah asks on x.com: “Will the dark mood of the series be influenced by new writers hired?”
The CEO of CD Projekt Red can give a clear answer to this question.
Real veterans take care of the new part
What does the CEO say? CD Projekt Red CEO Michał Nowakowski revealed on x.com that many veterans are involved in Part 4. Among other things, a developer who was already involved in Witcher 3, 2 and even the first offshoot of the series.
He takes care of the story and has ensured since part 1 that it is told coherently and logically. The CEO and his co-CEO Adam Badowski have also been at CD Projekt Red for over 20 years and oversee the work on the Witcher games.
But the studio doesn’t just rely on experienced developers on the story front. According to Nowakowski, around 100 people who worked on Witcher 3 are still part of CD Projekt Red. Many of them are also involved in the development of Part 4.
Given that around 200 people worked on Witcher 3, impressively few developers have left the company in the past decade.
At least when it comes to story and lore, the studio relies on experienced people. That could at least calm the worries of some fans a little. Nevertheless, new talents also get their chance and were able to design a practice quest around two years ago: There is only a quest in Witcher 3 because the developers wanted to prepare new employees for the fourth part
